I was able to tour the Grant-Kohrs National Historic Site earlier this year. As always, I snapped photos along the way, and was immediately struck by the charm and beauty of Augusta Kohr's Victorian garden. It is currently slightly overgrown and sprawling, but I could imagine how lovely it must have been in its prime when Augusta herself was tending it in the late 1800s. I liked to think of the refinement of this little flower garden growing in the midst of a rugged, working cattle ranch.

I received official permission to paint my photos of the garden and I set to work right away!:) In my painting, I altered a few things...like the little building at the edge of the garden. But I kept the exact varieties of the flowers planted, and the grass growing up between the path stones.

I enjoyed the history behind this pretty little garden, and that made painting it that much more special. I hope you enjoy it too!
