I feel like any decent Montana artist should be able to paint one of these fellows...what better way to learn than to do a study of one of Dutch artist Rien Poortvliet's marvelous pieces. I found it amusing how grumpy his expression ended up; at least he doesn't lack for personality...:)

Studies like this are such a wonderful way to improve technique, value, and hue; it certainly won't be my last of this style.
